just an update My 100 gal is coming along nicely I have my sump set up and plumbed and I just added water and sand on wednesday I am waiting on a shipment of liverock to start the cycle.
anyone have any tips on getting my overflow and my return pump right. I have a hob overflow with ball valves on the overflow pipes I just can't seem to get the overflow and return perfect.

How is the tank coming along? Did you get the flow problems solved?
That is 1" pvc right on the overflow box?
If I'm not mistaken, gate valves will restrict less flow than ball valves.
What size is your return pump?
A good rule of thumb is to have at least 1.5 times the amount of overflow capacity than you have coming out of your return pump.

well the tank started leaking yesterday.....its not really any big deal I was really expecting it thats why I havent added anything yet like I said it was a used tank that I got for 25 bucks It held water for 3 weeks before starting to leak I have drained the tank and I plan on re-sealing the entire tank. It just goes to show what kind of trouble you can save yourself by showing a little paitence.
