From my reading the gorg is a Sea Whip (Pterogorgia sp.) and is difficult to maintain in an aquarium. We'll see how it goes. I have it in a high current area like is recommended.

That doesn't look like a whip to me. It looks more like the gorg frag I have seen pictures of. Frag and D12 do you guys know?

It's funny that something as well known as GARF is in my own state, not 5 miles from my house, and yet I haven't gone and checked it out at all. I thought about joining, but not sure yet. Cool gorg whatever it is. Love the color.

Sea whip is a common name for certain gorgonians. Garf does have the purple ribbon (Pterogorgia sp.) gorgonian listed here - http://www.garf.org/36/gorgallabout/allaboutgorgs.html

You should take your camera if you do go!

Yeah, that would probably be a good idea. Only problem is my camera is not so good. I don't think I could get any good shots.

Well, the gorg has some polyps peeking out already. Nothing I can see on the other frag. Anyone got an idea of what that other frag is?

Can you get a better pic of the coralite structure? It is for sure an SPS coral. Possibly a digi.

Could be a stylophora. Wait until the polyps extend and snap another pic. It is not an acro though.

The gorg has opened nicely. I suspect it is not done yet. Here's a couple of pics:

Well, the gorg is actually quite purple. I have not been able to get the camera to get the exact colors. It's tough with the small LCD as it doesn't show the most accurate color. I'm trying to find a program for my laptop that will allow me to view and operate the camera from the computer, thus giving me a bigger screen.

Lighting on my tank is 260w of 50/50 PC. It's essentially a 4ft Aqualight. I have about 3.5 watts per gallon. I have the gorg sitting on the bottom, under the direct line of a 300gph powerhead.

Nice photos showing the polyp extension. Maybe adjusting the white balance on your camera will help in capturing the true colors.

Nice photo. I think the polyp structure resembles that of a digitata. Looks almost like a yellow polyp on a red base. Nice coral.
