Default button polyps look terrible

Is there aything I can do so I don't lose this cluster of buttons. They didn't look that good from the get go and there are less and less that open everyday. I've had them for about three weeks. They were mail order and when they were removed from the bag (after acclimation) there was tons of sludge in the bag and even a hairy crab which now lives in my sump. At the time I didn't know about coral dips and whatnot so they just went in the tank. All my water parameters are good, amm 0 nitrite 0 nitrate <5 ph 8.3 alk 4 cal 400.
Should I try to remove the bad polyps? If so how?
I haven't taken them out for inspection yet so I will wait for feedback,
Thanks
Louise
