The reason I thought it was fighting crabs was because I caught two of them in a tussle the other day and broke it up. When I find the claws they usually have some white matter attached and it looks like the crab had been forcibly removed from the shell. As for a mantis, that would really suck. Do they leave poop like that? I would think it must be pretty big if it's leaving crap like that. Might be time for the night vision goggles and low-light camcorder.

Yup... Don't kill it... I'd take it off of your hand. If in fact you do have one.

If they are bad why would you want it? I am just curious.

Some people actually make it a habit to collect Mantis.
I've had one in my tank. A gorgeous emerald green striker/slasher.

I have seen some that look neat but I don't know if I want to allow them to eat my clean up crew.

The peacock mantis are cool for a species tank or a tank with critters that are too large to eat. I wouldn't recommend hand feeding it though.

I used to hand feed mine. Was real freaky at first but they are one of the animals that have had the most personality that I have the opportunity to have in a saltwater tank.

I guess once you get them trained to recognize you but it would be scary the first couple of times.

I loaded AIM on the laptop and my girlfriend just took the laptop to file her taxes. I'll hop on when she's done.

Well, I put in my mantis trap last night and I awoke to find I had caught something. Unfortunately, it was Peppy, my peppermint shrimp. I'll try again tonight.
