Photo Contest Categories and Prizes
Frag Outpost needs your feedback. We are looking for your ideas and opinions for future photo contest categories. What kind of prizes do you want to see available?
The June photo contest is just around the corner and we still need a photo category. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Inverts? A frag as a prize would be nice.

Yeah I've been putting a lot of thought into having a frag as a prize. There are a few complications with that though. I will probably offer a frag as a prize for the July or August photo contest. I am thinking of starting with a hardy shipper like shrooms or zoos, something that can be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. I will keep an eye out for something good when I visit some lfs's later today. If I'm going to give away a frag as a prize then I'd like to offer something with great color, nothing on the bland side.

True. Or you can have an option between a few frags as long as they are willing to pay for shipping.

I like the Invert Idea but I think that it should be more specific like zoas, LPS corals, SPS corals, shrimp, etc. that way you can have more contests without repeating.

Good Idea... I like that too. When I said invert I was just getting a general category. Then later on make them more specific as we have more and more members. The problem I had seen with making the catergories more specific is that you have a tendency of negating some of the memebers that are on now. Meaning they might not be able to enter because they can't. We at this moment don't have too many active members. We specify and narrow a category we might not be allowing them to enter. I did think of suggesting a narrower category but I just thought as to who in general might be able to enter.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone so far. I was concerned as well with having too narrow of a category and not enough entries. Maybe for June we'll do Non Sessile Inverts and maybe Zoanthids or SPS corals for July.

I'd knew you'd agree with me.
Just kidding... So what's the new "subject" for the next contest going to be?

The June photo contest category will be non-sessile inverts. You can enter photos of any critters that can move about the tank on their own accord. This includes shrimp, stars, hermits, snails etc. Do not enter photos of corals, anemones, polyps etc. Future photo contest categories will be designated for specific types of corals.
Thanks for all of the feedback. I would like to have at least 2-3 months worth of photo contests and prizes lined up at any given time. I also want to ensure that quality prizes are offered.
Keep the suggestions coming!

Hey I think for next month we should do a crustacean contest. With the winner being a frag of some sort. Zoas, or some sort of polyps they ship fairly hardy.

January is just around the corner and we need a category for a new contest to kick off the new year. Any suggestions?
Maybe we will run a "Most Informative Thread" contest in January too!
I have an acro frag and some coral prop tools to give away as prizes.

Now that I think about it you're right, we haven't had an sps photo contest yet. We've had soft corals, zoanthids, inverts, and fish.

The prob with doing an SPS contest is that there aren't many people in this forum with SPS in their tanks.
Maybe once we have more people in the forum we will be able to hold an SPS contest.

We will have to redo the SPS topic again in the future. When our little community grows some more we will have contests with a more narrow topic.
