Looks good. That is a great idea. They look pretty bright, how many LED's are there in each of the little light fixtures?

Those are neat but I think the spectrum is a little off, should be close though.....

I got a set and tried it, they are a nice touch, I also saw that they had long blue tube lights, they looked perfect for a nano, about 12 inches or so long. Might try one of those this weekend.

Thanks for the Welcome,

And thanks for the great trading site!! And the great info.

I couldnt help myself and i went out and got the tube light at auto zone.
its 9 inches in length and fits right in the hood on a mini plastic bow front from all-mart. and it has 2 ends on it with flat areas, so I just used a drop of CA glue to hold it in.

Im setting up another nano, It will be slaved off of my 90 gallon reef and dump into the sump, I am feeding it with airline tubing, multi's so I get water movment thats adjustable. for surface skimming ive epoxied a 1/2 pvc grey plastic threaded hose barb into a hole drilled into the rear top left of the nano, what i end up with on the inside is a 1/2 threaded fitting that a 90 deg can be put on with a small nipple slip fit into it, that way I can adjust water level to get it up near the rim where it will look right, also I get surface skimming. Be carefull of getting epoxy on the threads, what i did was drill the hole, dry fit it and then applied epoxy to the base of the threads and threaded it into the hole so it would spin the epoxy to a pretty neet finish.

Next after the epoxy sets I will add a hose to the back and start setting up the nano with sand rocks, and fill it up!

Now I will have another nano to fill with frags. also I have to look into the main lighting and see if i can just replace the bulb with something better or do a retro-fit.

Im looking for frags also!!!! but you knew that already thats why we are here right?

Glad to have you aboard, Jackfish!
That blue tube is interesting. It looks like a neon light right, instead of LED's? How bright is it? Do you happen to have a photo with the light on? Does the package have any information about the spectrum?
Can't wait to see a pic of your new nano up and running.

Yea, they are neon, I just tossed in the sand and some DIY rocks I had made a year ago, so they have been outside soaking, ive got some more thats been in my sump for about 6 months and they are bleached out but are now bio rock, and should pick up and grow coraline quickly. The lights have a small ballast built inline in the cable, and for taking 12vt's the power consumption is nil I may just double them up if they are not enough, il get a pic as soon as the reef lights go out. A word of warning to anybody that might go pick some up and try this, read the package because one type and those are the longer ones, They are music activated and pulse outward from the center to the music

Heres a pic of them in action alone,

The blue seems to be brighter, cleaner, and floods the whole nano.

Nice pic. Nice nano as well. That does seem pretty bright. Thanks for showing off your version of diy moonlights. If only AutoZone knew of the marketing opportunities...
