Tanks for the compliment but I don't think my tank's the best. I'm still having problems getting everything situated. I have beautyful water parameters but just 2 weeks ago have a massive crash. I lost 4 corals including the last posted above. :crybaby2: It's a 29 gal tank plugged into 2 refugiums / sumps. One is a 30 gal tall fuge and the other is a 20 gal long with a sump. I have approx 50-55 gals of water between the 3 tanks and have over 120 lb of live rock and 100 lbs of live sand. I'm currently running 1 - 250 Watt 20,000 Kelvin metal halide and 4 - 75 Watt actinic VHO over the display. I also have 2 - 36 Watt 50/50 PC bulb fixture over one fuge and another over the other fuge. My water has a tendancy to runn a bit warm meaning 81.7 degrees.

To answer your question about the flow. I have a Mag 9.5 pumping into a SCWD - Squid (best $40 investment :D )

Ouch. I would be :crybaby2: too ... followed by :sad2: after losing those.

Ok here's an update on fish in the tank...

Presently....
1 - True percula
1 - Fridmani Pseudochromis
1 - Royal Grandma
1 - Volitan Lionfish
1 - Mandarin Dragonet
1 - Blenny (Not sure of exact species)
1 - Neon Goby
1 - Pearly Jawfish (Haven't seen in a little over a week)
1 - Green Corris Wrasse

Yeah jawfish will do that. When I first got my dusky jawfish he would disappear for weeks at a time, usually making a burrow facing the back of the glass. It took a little time to coerce him to make a burrow facing the front glass. I would have to say that the jawfish is one of my favorite fish and one of the reasons keeping me from going barebottom.
I'm not sure if you have kept a jawfish before but when it begins to make a burrow you should "feed" it some small pieces of rubble everyday. When your not looking it will take the rubble and reinforce the inner walls of the burrow. Keep feeding rubble until it has fully established its burrow and stops consuming the rubble you are placing out for it.
Excellent fish. It's construction habits can be very entertaining.

Update:

- Massive water change (again) to see if I can stablize the water parameters.

- Upgrade the pluming... Drilled out second 1" bulkhead on the overflow. Now running the Mag 9.5 at full power. Much more turbulence in the water now.

- Re-attached some corals to the liverock.

- Analyzed way to clean up all the extra zoos I have... (Anyone wants some?)

- Final assessment of the damage from the last system crash. (Looks like not going to loose anything else. Brain coral receded a bit and green polyp digitata also receded a bit. But seems to be stabalizing.

Glad to hear that things are looking better for your tank.
I'm sure your tank will recover in no time. :)

D12monkey
10-10-2005, 09:36 PM
recover yes... color up... won't happen too fast. I was finally starting to get really nice coloration after almost a year. Then the crash and most of the color is gone.

Consolidating all the tanks into the 155... it's a 6 footer. Opted out of the 220 for now Later on prob jump to a 500+ inwall system.

FragOutpost
03-03-2006, 11:16 PM
You are going to need to get your scuba gear out for cleaning the glass on the 500 in wall! :D

D12monkey

Well I need to get a nicer place first LOL.... But I'm think atleast 500 gal... Possibly looking into an 800 deep tank.

That won't be an easy task to install that tank. You should just build a house around the tank. :D

LOL naw just get a house with a nice sized garage... err storage/tank area... :D

The LPS underneath is a pineapple brain. The SPS above it is some sort of acro. Both are very nice corals. :)

Excellent... And good guess that it's a top down photo. The acro is a tri-colored acro.

Awesome looking tank d12. This may be a dumb question but is the front view there making a "bow front" tank look like its actually higher in the middle than on the ends or is that a custom tank?
I also noticed in the old pictures of your sump and ref that your skimmer looks exactly like my jebo skimmer. If so, is that why the 2x4 is sticking out next to the collection cup? I love this skimmer but i have exactly the same problem especially since i use a Nova Extreme T-5 lighting system with legs. I cant raise the light up to clean or do maint. without it falling forward.
I also noticed in the old pics that you had a HUGE carpet leather(?still learning whats what) coral on the mid-right side of the tank. I dont see it in the new tank. What happened to it and how long did it take you to get it that big?
Awesome setup in the new pic bro!
Jesse

Jinenon, there is no dumb question. That "2X4" is actually an Aquarium top 2x96 PC fixture that I had lighting the two refugiums.

The bow front is not higher in the center. That was the angle of the photo that was taken (Amazing what a little photo creativity will do). A bow front tank would look like a "D" that's been laid down and the glass coming up from it.

Yes you are correct that skimmer is a Jebo Skimmer, Man that thing pumped skimate out. What I did to min was take a drill bit and slowly drill a 5/8 hole on the bottom of the collection cup and put a 5/8 hose down to a milk jug that caught the skimate. That allowed me to go a few extra days without dumping the cup. Also since we drink a good amount of milk/water we always have plenty that I can replace the jugs with.

Unfortunately I had an issue with my tank stand not being ready when it was supposed to be and after I had started the move. This cost me about 90% of my livestock... But that one soft coral was a Toadstool Leather and I had it about 8 months to get it that big, but I had purchased a ready large one. It prob was about 1 to 1.5 year old without and fragging for it to get that size. I'm currently looking for another as my clown loved it so much.

Hey Frag haven't forgot about your frag. Nor you Teeka... I will be getting your frags out in the next couple of days.

As for you lighting setup, have a picture? I may have a suggestion. E-mail or start another tread to get it record of your tank going. As it is a nice way to see your tanks progression.

I love your new tank. I really like the bow front tanks.

I am so sorry to hear about you losing so many corals. I wish I had something to send you. I know it is just sicking to lose all of them.

What I managed to save were the fast growers. So my tank will be up and looking nicely soon. I have a 3-400W MH retro kit coming in.
